A few days after his first Oscar nomination, Mr Coleman Domingo, assumes his new role. He will play Michael Jackson’s father, Joe, in the biopic “Michael” under the direction of Antoine Fuqua.

In the lead role will be Michael’s nephew, Jafar Jackson, while the production chose 9-year-old Juliano Krue Valdi to play him in his childhood.

“It’s exciting to be working with Jafar. His son Jermaine Jackson plays Michael and he’s amazing,” Domingo said on the new episode of the Awards Circuit podcast (via Variety ).

“I think Graham King, the producer, has assembled an incredible cast. I am thrilled to be part of a film that explores both the complex psyche of the legendary Michael Jackson and his impact on music and culture as a global icon. Not only am I lucky enough to play a complex and flawed character, but I also have a front row seat to Jafar’s incredible transformation,” he said.

Filming began earlier this week and the star’s Instagram account hosted the first snaps.

The script is written by John Logan, produced by Graham King, and the administrators of the singer’s estate, John Branca and John McClain.
