Pablo Picasso’s Femme à la montre (“Woman with a Clock” – 1932) sold last November at a Sotheby’s auction in New York for $139.9 million, is the most expensive work of art to be auctioned in 2023 .

In 3rd place is one of Claude Monet’s 2-meter-long paintings from the series “Pond with Water Lilies” (“Le bassin aux nymphéas”), which was sold at an auction in New York in early November for $74 million.
The 4th and 5th places are respectively occupied by Basquiat’s painting entitled El Gran Espectaculo (The Nile – 67 million dollars) and the impressionistic landscape “Insel im Attersee” by Gustav Klimt, which was sold for 53 million dollars.
