Shannen Doherty shared a major development in her “battle” with cancer, which she called a “miracle.” The former “Beverly Hills, 90210” star, who has been diagnosed with stage 4 cancer, said the results of a recent treatment gave her new hope for the future.

“I won’t say what it is. I’m on a new cancer treatment and after four treatments we didn’t really see a difference and everyone wanted me to stop. I said, “We’ll go ahead and see.”, she told her radiation oncologist, Dr. Amin Mirhadi, on Monday’s episode of the Let’s Be Clear podcast.

“And yes, after the sixth or seventh treatment, we actually saw it break down the blood-brain barrier.”

The blood-brain barrier, as the name suggests, is a barrier between the brain’s blood vessels (capillaries) and the cells or other components that make up brain tissue. While the skull, meninges, and cerebrospinal fluid protect against physical damage, the blood-brain barrier provides defense against disease-causing pathogens and toxins that may be present in our blood.

Doherty, 52, said her body’s response to the new treatment was a “miracle” and added: “For me, this is a miracle right now. That somehow I rolled the dice and said, ‘Let’s go on.'”

The actress was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 2015. Although the cancer was in remission after chemotherapy in 2017, it “knocked” on her door again in 2019. Last year, the actress revealed that her cancer had metastasized, spreading first to her brain and then to her bones.

Despite saying she doesn’t want to die, Doherty explained why death doesn’t scare her.

“I don’t want to die”he had declared to “People” at the time. “I think I’d be scared to death if I wasn’t a good person, but I am. I’m not afraid of death, I just don’t want to die.

I’m not done with living, I’m not done with loving, I’m not done with creating, I’m not done with… I hope to change things for the better. My greatest memory is yet to come”she added.
