Margot Robbie spoke out for the first time about not being nominated for the 2024 Oscar. Protagonist of the film “Barbie”, one of the biggest box office hits of 2023, she said she had no reason to be sad, as the production is competing in seven categories in the biggest world cinema awards. However, she lamented the Hollywood Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences’ disregard for Greta Gerwig, director of the film who was also left out of the best director nominations.
“There’s no way to be sad when you know you’re so blessed,” Margot began. Obviously, I think Greta should be nominated as director, because what she did was something that only happens once in a career, once in a lifetime, what she did, really, is incredible. But it was an incredible year for all films”, added the actress, who is also executive producer of the film about the most famous doll in the world.
“Barbie” was nominated in the categories of best film, supporting actor (Ryan Gosling), supporting actress (America Ferrera), adapted screenplay (Greta Gerwig and Noah Baumbach), as well as costume and production design. During a panel at the Screen Actors Guild of America (SAG), she thanked her fans for their love and the support of her professional colleagues who also regretted that her name was left out of the nomination for the best actress award.
“People’s reactions to the film have been the greatest reward of this entire experience, whether in a moment like this, listening in the bathrooms, seeing what people are writing online, or even when they wear pink. Barbie has done so much more than we would imagine and that is the greatest reward”, he stated.
