The United States Court denied a request made by Lizzo to dismiss the sexual harassment lawsuit filed against her by former employees. A judge at a court in Los Angeles, California, ruled that the case should continue to be investigated.
The singer is accused by dancers and a stylist of creating a hostile work environment, which would involve fatphobia and sexual harassment. Among the accusations is the allegation that one of the former dancers was pressured to touch a naked performer during a trip to Amsterdam, in a neighborhood of adult entertainment clubs.
Furthermore, Lizzo reportedly expressed dissatisfaction with the weight of one of the dancers, culminating in her dismissal after she failed to attend a meeting for health reasons.
Despite deciding in favor of continuing the case, the judge rejected some allegations from the alleged victims. “The decision also correctly signals that Lizzo, or any celebrity, is not exempt from this type of reprehensible conduct just because she is famous,” said Ron Zambrano, who represents the women, in a statement sent to PEOPLE magazine.
The singer’s spokesperson told Entertainment Tonight that he was satisfied that part of the allegations were rejected by the magistrate and said he plans to appeal the rest.
“Lizzo is grateful to the judge for seeing through much of the noise and recognizing who she is: a strong woman who exists to uplift others and spread positivity.”
