The required works for the restoration of the forest landscape, the palace gardens and the cemetery in the former royal estate of Tatoithe Ministers of Culture presented today, Lina Mendoniand Environment & Energy, Theodore Skylakakisin a joint press conference held in the auditorium of the National Gallery.

Four studies were presented, two from each ministrywith the object of the actions of their competence concerning the implementation of the overall project in Tatoi.

The Ministry of Culture is responsible for the restoration of the Palace gardens, as well as for the works in I.N. of the Resurrection and in the Paleokastro hill cemetery in the Tatoi estate.

The Ministry of Environment and Energy is responsible for the implementation of projects related to the restoration of the forest ecosystemas well as the restoration of the vegetation and the highlighting of the cemetery.

“The total program currently carried out by the Ministry of Culture exceeds 60,000,000 euros and concerns the restoration and performance of new uses, in the buildings and monuments of the estate. The restoration of the palace gardens is completed with our intervention in the building of the Palace and the creation of a model Museum. Accordingly, the maintenance and promotion of the Church of the Resurrection and the burial monuments completes the intervention of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs”said the Minister of Culture, Lina Mendoni.

The study for the restoration of the palace gardens includes an area of ​​34 acres and a perimeter of 762 meters.

About 450 trees will be planted, the paths follow the original drawings while the creation of permeable surfaces contributes to the development of biodiversityensuring natural conditions in the environment, while favoring the development of local flora and fauna.

“Unfortunately, the most important factor in the restoration is the reappearance of the fireso we have to reinvent a space that will respect history but be prepared for fires”said Thomas Doxiadis, landscape architect who together with Electra Kanellou, agronomist and landscape architect, presented the study for the restoration of the vegetation and the prominence of the cemetery.

As for the cemetery, among other things, it was proposed “because of the special character of the placewhich includes historical immovable monuments located in the natural forest, for reasons of highlighting and protecting the identity of the area and given the increasing trend of fire incidents in the future, due to climate change, the new formation of vegetation in the area of ​​the cemetery should have the fire containment zone characteristics’.

Maria Mertzani, head of the Directorate for the Maintenance of Ancient and Modern Monuments, referred to the works in I.N. Resurrection and in the Paleokastro Hill Cemetery, where the royal family’s cemetery has existed since the early 1880s, in which I.N. of Anastasia, the work of the architect Anastasios Metaxas with an illustration of the Kalothetos Memorial.
