The bill was accepted by a majority. ND supported his principle. SYRIZA, PASOK-KINAL, Hellenic Solution, New Left, “Spartiates” and Pleussi Eleftherias were reserved for the Plenary, while the KKE and “Niki” voted against.
The Minister of Digital Governance, Dimitris Papastergiou, characterized the establishment of a “National Cybersecurity Authority”, “a critical step to strengthen the state’s resilience against cyberattacks in order for the country to respond effectively to the growing national needs as well as to the imperative EU commitments”.
At the same time, accepting the relevant suggestions of the opposition parties, he assured that increased qualifications will be provided for the administrators of the “National Cyber ​​Security Authority” and postgraduate degrees will be added to the provision.
“There is no place for petty political approaches in a bill that will cover 2,000 critical agencies of the state to be even more secure. In the last week alone, the country received 13.3 cyber attacks”, Mr. Papastergiou concluded.
For their part, the opposition parties expressed reservations regarding the effectiveness and independence of the “National Cybersecurity Authority”, focusing their criticism mainly on its autonomy, transparency and accountability, but also on the absolute guarantee of the protection of sensitive personal data.
