Globo once again had problems with journalists commenting on Big Brother Brasil on their personal social networks. At least two situations happened in the last few days in relation to BBB 24, and made the subject come up again behind the scenes at the broadcaster.
The first was the identification of GloboNews reporters who made critical comments to some participants, such as Wanessa Camargo and Giovanna Lima, on the former X (former Twitter). They were advised to delete the posts.
Because of this, employees of Globo’s news channels were reoriented not to criticize or praise those confined, and to be careful with what they say.
The other case happened in Bahia. Three texts and videos made by local Globo anchors, which were successful on Instagram, had to be removed from circulation at the request of the broadcaster.
The texts were signed by Jéssica Senra and Ricardo Ismahel, respectively. Both present Globo news programs in Salvador. The texts talked about the behavior of program participants.
One of them, the most famous, was signed by Senra and quoted Wanessa Camargo. In the video, Senra says that Zezé Di Camargo’s daughter used the stereotype of the “dangerous black man” to disqualify Davi Brito from the reality show. The texts and videos were posted by the iBahia portal, which belongs to Rede Bahia, a Globo affiliate in the capital of Bahia.
The column confirmed that the texts were deleted from the iBahia networks and website, and also from the presenters’ personal pages. The video with Senra talking about Wanessa had already gone viral on her official page, and had more than 3 million views. It continues to resonate on other pages, where it was reproduced.
Globo journalists who appear in the video on any of the broadcaster’s platforms have not been able to comment effusively on BBB on social media since 2022, when correspondent Rodrigo Carvalho had an argument with JB de Oliveira, aka Boninho, director of the nucleus responsible for the reality show.
On the day the BBB 22 participants were announced, Carvalho was amused by a statement by LaÃs Caldas, who is a doctor and said she had worked on the front line against Covid-19. “It’s the least”, he teased, saying it was “Fora LaÃs”, in a joking tone.
Then, after the announcement of the participant Slovenia, the journalist wrote: “Preparing the suggested topic ‘Get to know Slovenia’ for Sunday’s Show of Life”. That’s when Boninho, on X (formerly Twitter), responded: “Hey, Rodrigo, get real and stop hunting for clicks! You don’t need this!”
Soon after the problem, journalists who are presenters or reporters stopped making effusive comments about the reality show. But there are exceptions. Daniela Lima, anchor at Globo News, has commented on the program daily, but very sparingly and without mentioning the names of participants.
In 2018, when updating Grupo Globo’s guidelines on the use of social media by its employees, the company noted: “When that person is a journalist, their public activity ends up being related to the vehicle they work for. If such activity tarnishes their reputation for impartiality will also tarnish the vehicle’s reputation.”
The text also says: “In their work on social media, journalists must avoid anything that compromises the perception that Grupo Globo is exempt. For this reason, on social media, these journalists must refrain from expressing political opinions, promoting and support parties and candidacies, defend ideologies and take sides on controversial and controversial issues that are being covered journalistically by Grupo Globo”.
Wanted by F5 to comment on the matter, Globo did not respond until the last update of this text.
