Rio Series A champion school dismisses trans drum queen

After two years as drum queen of Unidos de Padre Miguel, Thalita Zampirolli was dismissed from her position one day after the party celebrating the Rio Carnival Series A title and access to the Special Group in 2025. Who announced the model’s departure trans was one of the school directors, Lara Mara Rodriguez on social media this Friday (16).

“On behalf of the board, I am very grateful to Thalita for two years of a beautiful reign. Anyway, now it’s time to talk about issues… There’s no point in you starting a riot as if the school was prejudiced because she was a trans woman. UPM was the first school to have a gay bathroom”, began Lara in the statement after criticism from several samba dancers about the departure of the influencer and even accusations of transphobia at the school.

The director highlighted that the school intends to elect a dancer from the community as the new queen in a competition for next year. “At this time of UPM’s rise, nothing more fair than valuing our roots and our community”, commented Lara. Unidos de Padre Miguel moves up to the Special Group and Porto da Pedra is relegated to Série A.

She also suggests that Thalita Zampirolli was only ahead of the rhythmists because she had paid for the position: “In order to access it, we needed the money from selling the position. Now with a new structure and funding, we will have the opportunity to make the dream of one of the girls in our team come true. community. End of conversation.”

Thalita Zampirolli vented on Instagram stories shortly after the director’s statement. She said that at the party celebrating the Unidos de Padre Miguel title, she found it strange to have been approached by several members. They were already regretting her leaving the school. “I asked Lara Mara and she told me it was a lie, ‘a big gossip’ and now this is happening,” she said.

The former drum queen said that she has no regrets about not being able to march for the group in the Special Group and that the biggest disappointment is how her departure was handled. “I was invited by the school to be the drum queen. I was very well received and had love and affection from the members. I’m upset with the way this whole episode was handled. What a sin it would be for me to want to be together with my school in the Special Group, if everyone dreams of being there?”, he concluded.
