Now, nearly half a century later, the musical instrument has been located and returned to Paul McCartney.

Bass were spotted as part of the campaign “The Lost Bass Project” which began in 2018. In May 2023 two journalists and a musical instrument expert Hofner revived the investigation and appealed to the public for tips.

The bass was first purchased by Paul McCartney in Hamburg, Germany in 1961, used at The Beatles’ concerts in the city, as well as their appearances at The Cavern Club in Liverpool, England. It is also heard on many classic Beatles recordings, “Love Me Do”, “Twist and Shout”, “All My Loving”, “She Loves You” and others.

According to The Lost Bass Project, the bass was stolen from the back of a van on the night of October 10, 1972, in the Notting Hill area of ​​London and sold to a pub owner.

The owner’s family, who live in southeast England, contacted the studio of the legendary Beatles member and informed that he has a bass in the attic.
