Novel of the first edition of the Harry Potter series bought for 13 pence almost 30 years ago sold at auction for £11,000.

The uncorrected copy of the novel “Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone” bought in 1997 from a second hand shop along with two other books for 40p.

Harry Potter book expert Jim Spencer, he said, according to the BBC: “This book is of great value. This is where the Harry Potter phenomenon began.”

“This is the first time that the first novel in the Harry Potter series has been presented in print,” he noted.

The woman who put the book up for sale, who remains anonymous, bought the tome when she was 26 and living in the Crystal Palace.

The book was sold by auction house Hansons to a buyer from the United Kingdom.

The most expensive Harry Potter book is the children’s illustrated “The Tales of Biddle the Bard” which sold on Amazon for £1.9m.

The book of children’s stories referred to in the seventh book “Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows” is handwritten and illustrated by J. K. Rowling and is one of only seven copies released.
