Emily Blunt is in talks for Benny Safdi’s directorial debut, “The Smashing Machine”starring Dwayne Johnson in the role of legendary MMA and UFC champion Mark Kerr, Variety has confirmed.

The BAFTA award-winning actress discusses the role of the athlete’s wife, Dawn Staples, who “struggles to find her place in Mark’s chaotic and contradictory world.”

If talks go through, the ambitious A24 production will reunite Blunt with both Safdie, with whom she starred in “Oppenheimer” Christopher Nolan’s as well as Johnson, her co-star in Disney’s 2021 Jungle Cruise.

According to the film’s synopsis, “The Smashing Machine” tells “the no-holds-barred story of Mark Kerr, including his struggles with addiction, victory, love and friendship.”

Eli Bush, David Coplan and Johnson and Danny Garcia’s “Seven Bucks Productions” signed the production together with the director.

It is noted that Emily Blunt is among the nominees for the Oscar for Supporting Actress for her performance in the film “Oppenheimer”.
