Singer Caetano Veloso managed to seize the money from the sales of the book by Olavo de Carvalho, who died in January 2022, so that he can receive the amount that the Court deemed appropriate after winning the case against former president Jair Bolsonaro’s guru.

In 2017, Caetano filed a lawsuit after being called a pedophile by the Bolsonaro leader on social media. In the same year, the Court granted an injunction, deciding to remove the content from the internet, under penalty of a daily fine of R$10,000. And that was never done. The debt ended up accumulating and exceeding R$3 million reais.

According to information from the TJ-RJ, the 50th Civil Court of Rio granted Caetano’s defense request and ordered the seizure of the amounts collected by Editora Record from the sale of Olavo de Carvalho’s books.

The decision was made by judge Guilherme Pedrosa Lopes, who states in the document that until the inventory is finalized, it is the estate’s responsibility to pay for the debts incurred by him during his lifetime. When contacted, Editora Record states that the values for the books would be just over R$8,000.

This fight between Olavo and Caetano is old. Right at the beginning of it, lawyer Clara Leite, who defended Caetano, explained that it was necessary to file a letter of request in Virginia (USA) where Carvalho was resident to issue the subpoena.

In 2019, the writer filed a criminal complaint against Caetano following an article published by the musician in Sheet. The document asked Caetano to answer for the crimes of slander, defamation and insult.

Olavo’s lawyer, Francisco Carlos Cabrera, who signed the petition, referred to the musician as a “scoundrel”, “a delinquent dressed as a columnist” and said that Caetano claimed to have been exiled (during the dictatorship), “but never showed a document “. Olavo, in his defense, said that the artist had offended his honor.

In 2021, the Rio Court denied another appeal from the Bolsonaro guru who claimed he was unable to pay the entire amount to the singer, and the debt dragged on.
