The shirt worn by Colin Firth after a dip in the lake in an episode of the TV adaptation of the classic novel ‘Pride and Prejudice’ is sold for £25,000 auctioned for charity.

Academy Award-winning actor Colin Firth played Fitzwilliam Darcy in the 1995 BBC adaptation of Jane Austen’s novel, co-starring Jennifer Ell as Elizabeth Bennet.

Initially, the sale price of the actor’s shirt, velvet vest, trousers and boots set was estimated to be 7,000 – 10,000 British pounds. Eventually the sale price more than doubled.

The shirt will be sold alongside over 60 costumes from films and series, among other things, a dress Madonna’s Dior sold for 60,000 English pounds and his suit Johnny Depp from the movie “Sleepy Hollow” (The Legend of the Headless Horseman), the price of which is 30,000 English pounds.

The auction, organized by Kerry Taylor Auctions, is selling clothes donated by costume house Cosprop, founded in 1965 by Oscar and Bafta-winning designer John Bright. The auction will raise funds for the non-governmental organization that implements arts education programs, The Bright Foundation, which was founded by the designer who won the Oscar for Best Costume Design for the film “A Room With a View.”
