How do you feel about the season so far?
It has left me feeling good but at the same time confused. Good, if we take into account the fiction series shown on Greek television and some of them are remarkable – among them I include SKAI’s “Pantheus” and MEGA’s “Milky Way”, and not only because I participate in them! On the other hand, there are so many series that are shown, that no one has time to watch them all…
Through the multitude of series, did the separation of the actors stop?
Now, the world learns theater and cinema actors and it is very beautiful both for the TV viewers and for us who “introduce ourselves” to a wider audience. An audience that might come to the theater as well. In my opinion, the divisions that used to exist in television, theater or film actors no longer exist. For an actor, switching from one genre to another is a gain. Each medium has its own code and is a different kind of exercise of our expressive means, it is a challenge.
How would you describe your collaboration with “Pantheus”?
Fruitful but far from easy in all areas. The people from the production, the directing team, the technicians, the hairdressers, make-up artists, etc., give their best. They give their whole soul. Also, I am collaborating again with excellent colleagues, such as Emilios Chiilakis, and with some others who had not had the chance, such as Katia Dandoulakis, Thanasis Kourlampas, Michalis Sarantis, Kora Karvounis, Athena Maximou and many, many others. You know, in difficult circumstances, what gives you strength is working with creative people who love what they do and are interested. I really hold this experience in my heart!
How close or far are you from Despina, the heroine you play?
In some things we are quite close and in others quite far. Despina is a woman who was born at the beginning of the last century, in a metropolitan environment, and at that time women did not have access to most professions. They were male-dominated spaces. Despina Pantheou stood on her own two feet, trusted her power and even got to have a large fortune, betting on the stock market. After her husband left, she raised her child alone and maintains a relationship with the banker Gerasimos Soldatos. She bears the cost of her choices and has a strength and tenacity about things. I would say this is a common characteristic of us.
You, where do you draw strength to proceed with any choice?
I trust my gut a lot. I draw strength from this but also from dear friends and colleagues. Our work is completely team-based, nice colleagues are a basic condition for me to progress and participate in a job.
Has your gut so far confirmed you?
It usually confirms me.
How is Despina’s relationship with Gerasimos developing?
Despina thinks she has sorted out the Kitsu issue with Marmo – the highest purpose of her life is her son after all – and he has seen his mother’s relationship with Gerasimos very positively. So where everything seems to have settled down and Despina decides to formalize her relationship with Gerasimos, Homer Galatis appears. The return of her ex-husband disturbs her balance and her relationship with Gerasimos will undergo strong vibrations. Nevertheless, Gerasimos gives her the space she thinks she needs to see for herself where she wants to go…
What is her attitude towards Homer when he threatens to reveal their secret?
Despina begs Homer not to say anything to Kitso about their breakup then, not to reveal to him what really happened and she left them. Despina has concealed a part of the facts. Homer may be impulsive and reckless as a character, but he is not a malicious person, he has deep feelings for Despina and Kitso. Whatever he does, he doesn’t do it out of bad intent.
Will Kitsos finally learn the secret?
The truth is that Kitsos will find out the secret and he will be very hurt by it.
Is Despina reconsidering the new opportunity she’s giving Homer?
Despina begins to get close to Homer again and their relationship is rekindled. But it won’t last long, they are two completely different people who loved each other very much but in the end their worlds don’t meet.
What are your other career plans?
At the moment I have started rehearsals for three new films in which I will participate: by Yiannis Economides, George Georgopoulos and Stefanos Tzivopoulos. They are three very different but very interesting directors, three very interesting stories and favorite collaborators whom I meet again. From there, I am in talks to return to the theater as of October ’24.
