The horror film, in which children’s favorite literary hero Winnie the Pooh and his friend Piglet are transformed into psychopathic killers, has been named the worst film of 2023 by the well-known anti-Oscars.

With a budget of less than $250,000, the movie Winnie-the-Pooh: Blood and Honey made headlines last year, even drawing death threats from enraged fans of the little bear.

Although Disney has held the license for The Adventures of Winnie the Pooh and Piglet for decades, the legal protection of Milne’s first books, published in 1926, has expired.

Therefore, the main character could be used freely, thus allowing for this “nightmare” adaptation of him.

The film “Winnie the Pooh: Blood and Honey” swept the five categories proposed at the 44th edition of the Golden Raspberry Awards, including worst picture, director, screenplay, overall cast/couple and remake/sequel.

However, the poor performance of the film does not seem to embarrass director Rhys Frake-Waterfield.

His film grossed nearly $5 million after benefiting from a worldwide theatrical release thanks to the controversy it generated. And its sequel is expected to be released next month.

Last year, he told AFP that he was considering taking on horror films based on the “Bobby” and “Peter Pan” books.

Golden Blueberries was created in 1981 to mock Hollywood’s self-indulgent culture. They are announced every year on the eve of the Oscars.

This year, actor Jon Voight was awarded the worst actor award for the thriller “Mercy.” Megan Fox was voted the worst actress for the horror film “Johnny & Clyde”.
