Olivia Munn announced on social media this Wednesday (13) that she was diagnosed with breast cancer. The 43-year-old actress told how she discovered she had a tumor and gave an account of the treatment so far.
Olivia said that, when she was diagnosed, she had already undergone genetic testing for several types of cancer, which received a negative result, and her mammograms — an imaging test of breast tissue — were up to date. According to her, a decision from her gynecologist changed everything.
She calculated her risk score for breast cancer, which showed a 37% chance of diagnosis. “Because of this score, I was referred for an MRI, which led to an ultrasound and then a biopsy. The biopsy showed that I had Luminal B cancer in both breasts. Luminal B is an aggressive cancer and of rapid progression,” she wrote.
The actress said she had a double mastectomy 30 days after the positive result: “I’m lucky. We caught it in time for me to have options.” She further warned her followers: “Ask your doctor to calculate your breast cancer risk score. Dr. Aliabadi says if the number is greater than 20%, you need to have annual mammograms and breast MRIs starting at 30 years old”.
Olivia starred in films such as “Magic Mike” (2012), “X-Men: Apocalypse” (2016) and “The Predator” (2018).
