Tim Maia’s body can be exhumed for paternity testing; understand

by

The body of Tim Maia (1942-1998) may be exhumed for the second time. This had already happened in 2012 when a woman asked for a paternity test and it was negative. Now, another man has opened a case in court to try to prove that he is the singer’s son.

When contacted, the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro said that it could not provide more information because the action was under secrecy, but according to information from the newspaper O Globo, the agency’s Genetic Expertise Service stated in documents that this possibility of exhumation is real and necessary.

Choreographer Rodrigo Rezende, the man who claims to be his son, would like the genetic material already taken from Maia the first time to be used, but perhaps this material was lost when the agreement between TJ-RJ and the laboratory ended in 2018 from the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), where the DNA was located.

The big question behind a possible exhumation is Tim’s biological son, Carmelo Maia, who would not be willing to cooperate with this new test.

At the time of the opening of the case, in 2021, Rodrigo said that his mother was a dancer and that she had had a relationship with the singer. And that there were concrete elements for him to be the musician’s son. When contacted, Rodrigo and Carmelo had not yet responded until the publication of this text.
