BBB 24: Maria, expelled from BBB 22, exposes the difference in treatment between her and Wanessa: ‘That’s what structural racism is’

Former BBB Maria Bomani, who participated in the 22nd edition of the reality show and was expelled for aggression, spoke out about Wanessa’s expulsion, denouncing the difference in treatment in the two cases.

“The difference in treatment of white people and black people in the face of their mistakes: that’s structural racism,” said Maria in a video published on her Instagram profile last Monday (18).

According to her, the reality team advised her to make a video apologizing at the time. At the time, the participant was accused of attacking Natália during a dynamic in which she was supposed to throw water on the head of a fellow prisoner. She hit her colleague on the head with the bucket, causing her expulsion.

“I had already apologized to Natália at the time of the incident, I apologized minutes later, hours later, I apologized in the morning at the X-ray to her, to her family and to Brazil”, says Maria.

She also remembers that, after being expelled from BBB, the only Globo program she participated in was “Domingão com Huck”, while Wanessa gave an interview to Fantástico.

“At the time, I said that 28 days of confinement do not define my entire story, and it was the same thing that Wanessa said. But in my case, it did. I cannot comment on any issue, because people attack me for this same error”, he continued.

Maria, who was 21 years old when she joined the reality show, also recalled that the production changed the rules of dynamics such as the bucket, in which she attacked Natália. Currently, dummies (program assistants) are responsible for pouring liquids on participants and things like that.

“It’s funny how people didn’t see me as a 21-year-old girl, which is what I was at the time. I explain to you how structural racism works: it doesn’t give me the opportunity to make mistakes twice,” she said.

“Structural racism points to stereotypes that I am read in today: unbalanced, aggressive, rude, foul-mouthed, promiscuous, mulatto export”, she says. Structural racism animalizes people like me.”

The actress also spoke about her health. She claims to have entered the program with hypothyroidism, a condition that causes fatigue and stress, among other symptoms. “No one gave me the benefit of the doubt”, she said, also citing the case of Vanessa Lopes, who was diagnosed with psychosis after leaving BBB.
