Jake Gyllenhaal revealed that he would love to play him Batman, if given the chance. As the James Gunn-led DC Cinematic Universe begins to take shape, actors for several superhero roles have been cast, including Superman, Supergirl and Lex Luthor. However, the search for an actor for a hero, Batman/Bruce Wayne continues.

A perennial contender to play Batman whenever the role becomes available, Jake Gyllenhaal was recently asked about appearing in the DC Universe as the ‘Caped Crusader’.

“It’s a classic role. It’s an honor. We’re talking about roles that other incredible actors have played in the past…” Jake Gyllenhaal said on screen rant.

“I’m going to be playing Iago in Othello with Denzel Washington and I think about the history of the actors who have played this role over time and it scares me. So this is the first level. That’s what I’m working on right now. But of course. It would always be an honor. These things and these roles are classic” underlined.

Gyllenhaal has been associated with Bruce Wayne/Batman since the early 2000s, when it was announced that Christopher Nolan would adapt Batman for the movies, for The Dark Knight Trilogy. Gyllenhaal, according to Deadline Hollywood, had auditioned for the role and was considered a top contender, but ultimately lost out to Christian Bale.

His name was linked to the superhero again in 2017, when Matt Reeves began looking for actors for the film “The Batman”, but in the end Robert Pattinson was chosen.
