Hospital e Maternidade Brasil, managed by Rede D’Or, was ordered to pay compensation of R$200,000 to actress Klara Castanho for leaking information, in 2022, that she had had a child after a rape and was placed for adoption .
The São Paulo Court of Justice states that the case is being processed in secret, but the conviction was confirmed by O Globo.
Since then, Klara decided to sue the hospital. The decision to punish the establishment was made by judge Alberto Gentil de Almeida Pedroso, who says he found a clear violation of professional secrecy, since the hospital unit provided third parties with medical-hospital information that concerns the actress’s privacy and intimacy.
At the time, the artist reported that she had been approached by a nurse willing to pass on the information to a journalist, something that happened later. When contacted, Rede D’or said it does not comment on court decisions. Klara also declined to comment.
After the leak, Klara decided to release an open letter on her Instagram in which she said that the baby’s delivery had been protected and confidential.
“Being a father and/or mother does not depend solely on the economic and financial condition, but on the ability to care. Upon recognizing my inability to exercise this care, I opted for this conscious surrender”, he wrote.
