The Recife court blocked singer Joelma’s passport due to her company’s labor debt of just over R$1 million to a former manager of the band Calypso. When contacted, the artist had not yet commented.
According to information from the 11th Recife Labor Court, following a determination by judge Gustavo Augusto Pires de Oliveira, the confiscation of the artist’s document was decided. To pay off the amount, there was also a decision to block the amount that would be received by her for a show held in Caruaru (PE).
According to the order, searches were made for any of Joelma’s assets that could serve as payment, but only properties with various judicial restrictions were found. The judge also states that the singer uses a company owned by her own daughter to cover up payments.
“Joelma Mendes’ conduct reveals a total lack of commitment to cooperation and the manifest intention of obstructing the enforcement measures imposed to her detriment, hiding from the Judiciary while she continues to boast a high standard of living resulting from her fame”, says an excerpt of the document, which states that there is “concealment of assets”. An appeal is possible, and Joelma can file an urgent legal measure with the Regional Labor Court of the 6th Region.
