The opposition insists on the position of the Minister of National Defense Nikos Dendias on the amendment for the Unknown Soldier during the second day of debate in the Plenary, with Dimitris Mantzos from PASOK stressing that “we have been talking about the Unknown Soldier for days without the “Unknown Minister””.

Yesterday’s absence of the Minister of National Defense from the meeting continues today to be the subject of discussion with the parliamentary representatives of the opposition requesting his appearance.

“In a few hours the amendment may become a state law, will you have a provision, a minister to implement it will you have? Who will implement it?’ asked the parliamentary representative of SYRIZA Nikos Pappas, while Peti Perka from the New Left added: “It is unacceptable that Mr. Dendias is hiding. To come to the Parliament and take a position.”

“The political logic of the amendment was presented yesterday by the prime minister himself” answered Notis Mitarakis from the ND, underlining that in the vote that will follow all 156 MPs of the New Democracy, including the Ministers, will vote in favor. “Out of the 7 Ministers (including those who co-signed it) yesterday, the Minister of Justice, Mr. Floridis, was here and was appointed. We do not consider that there is a procedural issue” he added.

According to the planning of the Parliament, the roll-call vote is expected to take place at 5 pm.

Apart from the KKE, SYRIZA also submitted a request for a roll call vote.
