The SKAI 100.3 historical radio series presented by Aris Portosalte is dedicated to life in Europe from the 16th to the 19th century. The role of the ruler, the genesis of nation-states, secular and religious authority, man in society, daily life, morals and customs. Culture and intellectual life: Galileo, Newton, Montesquieu, Diderot, Rousseau, Mozart. Education and Faith, Catholicism and the Eastern Church.

In the broadcast of Sunday, March 17, in the eighth and final part of the documentary, we heard about the reaction of the Catholic church to the reform movements. How did the Catholic church deal with this great wave that hit it? What was the purpose of establishing the new religious orders and what were the differences between them?

As a further counter-reformation measure, Pope Paul the Third convened the Council of Trent (1545-1563), one of the most important councils of the Roman Catholic Church where decisions were made to reorganize the Church. Moving on to the second phase of the religious wars of 1560, which involved the conflict between the Catholics and the Calvinists, we see how the wave of violence spreads and this has the effect of reaching the night of Saint Bartholomew.

As the religious antagonisms continue, Europe lives an intense war climate, under these conditions we reach the third phase of the religious wars, the outbreak of the Thirty Years’ War between all the states of Europe and we end up with the Treaty of Westphalia which resulted in the end of war.
