Works of art worn in the Art Showcases of OTE

A “painting” is worn around the neck, another covers two bare shoulders in summer and a third “breaks” the monotony of a monochrome winter coat.

The OTE Art Showcases in the center of Thessaloniki “married” the “showcases” with “art” during this period and host works that are … worn.

This is the work of the Thessaloniki artist Kiki Sidiropoulou, known as ki/ko, who creates on different canvases.

“I have been working for many years with pure silk, pure wool and cotton. My raw material is always pure fibers, without any synthetics,” she declares to the Athenian/Macedonian News Agency.

From there, these materials are transformed in her hands into colorful subjects, inspired by a person, by nature or even by the fabric itself. “The works exhibited in the Showcases are all made of pure animal silk, a material that for many years I have been importing from abroad for my work. This time, however, my inspiration came from the wonderful silks of Souflio, which have an excellent quality, which I am trying for the first time,” he emphasizes.

So, the works he created for this exhibition are about the “joy of spring”, as he says, while their colors catch the eye of every passerby. “They have been made with various techniques. Either they are painted on a frame, or they are dipped in paint, or they have to do with dyeing and depainting, or even all these techniques mixed, depending on where I want to end up each time,” explains the artist.

She herself lives and works near Karolou Dill Street and believes that the Art Showcases of OTE cannot leave passers-by indifferent, no matter what season they host. This was also the reason why she responded to the proposal of Yiannis Argyriadis who is in charge of them, while in addition, she feels that in this way she “decorated” her neighborhood.
