the enigmatic allure of the Rolling Stones, is explored in a new photographic exhibition at the Lucy Bell Gallery in St Leonards, UK, offering fans a behind-the-scenes look at one of the most iconic bands of all time.

The exhibition ‘Rare Stones – Brian Aris’ presents for the first time photos from the legendary band from the 1980s taken by Brian Aris, which encapsulate the energy, charisma and enduring influence of the rock band.

Brian Aris was invited to travel to Boston to photograph the Rolling Stones in 1981, where they were secretly rehearsing for their upcoming tour.

“I spent days photographing different band members before going into a candlelit barn with the band around midnight for a rehearsal.

I was sitting on the barn floor, shooting with very fast film, as there was so little light, thinking how privileged I was to be there with the opportunity to capture the Stones,” says Brian Aris in the exhibition description.

No fancy costumes or make-up, no expensive lights – just an amazing group of musicians who really enjoy making great music,” he underlines.

Many other photo shoots followed, a trip to Paris, Mick Jagger and David Bowie together in concert, Ronnie Wood a talented painter in his studio.

“With the band on tour this year, it’s a perfect opportunity to raid my archives,” he explained.

“The special chemistry that existed between the band as artists, collaborators and friends is revealed in these photos,” he said.

The exhibition at the Lucy Bell Gallery opened on March 23rd and will run until May 6th.
