As expected, the Billie Eilish has officially announced the title and release date of her third album, which will be titled “Hit me Hard and Soft” and will be released on May 17th.

“So crazy writing this right now I’m so stressed and excited. I don’t do singles, I want to give you all together. Finneas and I really couldn’t be more proud of this album and we absolutely can’t wait for you to hear it. I love you I love you I love you”Eilish wrote in a post on Instagram, officially announcing the release of her long-awaited album.

The album’s somewhat controversial title — which, unlike the lowercase letters Eilish has used in recent years, is in all caps like her previous releases — is at least partially explained in the press release that followed her post: “The album does exactly what the title suggests: it hits you hard and soft both lyrically and sonically, while bending genres and defying trends. “HIT ME HARD AND SOFT” travels through a vast and expansive soundscape, immersing listeners in a full range of emotions. It’s what the Grammy and Oscar winner does best, continuing to prove that Billie Eilish is the most exciting lyricist of her time.”

The announcement notes that the album will be available on all digital platforms and, echoing Eilish’s recent comments about the environmental waste of physical products like vinyl, adds: “In an ongoing effort to minimize waste and fight climate change – in all natural forms in limited variations on the same day, with the same track list and using 100% recyclable materials…”
