Canadian singer Céline Dion is on the cover of Vogue France for the May issue. With a highly successful career, the artist, 55, spoke to the magazine about stiff person syndrome, an autoimmune disease that she faces. “I didn’t fight the disease, it’s still with me and forever. I hope to find a miracle, a way to cure it with scientific research, but I need to learn to live with it.”

Dion said she is following an exercise routine, five times a week, with activities for her body and voice. She also highlighted her resilience over the condition.

“Life has no answers. It just needs to be lived! I have this disease for an unknown reason. I have two choices. Either I train like an athlete and work really hard or I disconnect and it’s over, I stay at home, listen to my music, stay ahead from the mirror and singing to myself. I chose to work with my whole body and soul, from head to toe, with a medical team. I want to be the best version of myself.

Stiff person syndrome is an autoimmune neurological condition that affects the central nervous system. The symptoms are mainly muscle stiffness, which can vary in intensity and frequency. The patient may have painful spasms in the limbs such as arms and legs and also in the spine.

The artist also spoke about the importance of the support she receives from her family, fans and children. “People who suffer from this syndrome may not have the luck or the means to have good doctors, good treatments. I have these means, I have this gift. Furthermore, I have this strength within me. I know that nothing will stop me” .

Regarding the possibility of returning to the stage, the singer does not have a definitive answer.

“Today, I can’t tell you, ‘Yes, in four months.’ My body will tell me. However, I don’t want to just wait. It’s emotionally difficult to live one day at a time. It’s the passion. dream. It’s determination”, said Dion.

The singer made a public appearance in February this year at the Grammys, where she was responsible for presenting the Album of the Year award to singer Taylor Swift. Dion’s presence moved the public and fans.

In March, she also spoke about her desire to return to the stage, in a post on Instagram. “Trying to overcome this autoimmune disorder has been one of the most difficult experiences of my life, but I remain determined to one day return to the stage.”

Asked about what dreams she currently pursues, the singer spoke about her desire to live in the now and that she feels honored. “My dream is to live in the present. I am really very lucky and I am honored to do a photo shoot for Vogue France. Today, I am a woman who feels very strong to move forward. One day at a time.”
