Anne Hathaway, 41, has been promoting her new film “An Idea of You” and in a recent interview, she said she suffered a little at the beginning of her career. The actress recalled that she had to kiss several actors during auditions. Reason? Test chemistry with potential partners on camera.
“This happened in the 2000s and I went through what, at the time, was considered normal. It was normal to ask an actor to kiss other actors to test chemistry. Which is actually the worst way to do it,” began Anne Hathaway, who stressed that he had done “these tests” several times.
“They told me, ‘We have ten guys coming today and you’re cast. Aren’t you excited to be with all of them?’ I thought, ‘Is there something wrong with me?’ because I wasn’t excited. I thought it looked gross. And I was so young and very aware of how easy it was to lose everything by being labeled ‘difficult’, so I just pretended I was excited and moved on,” she continued in the conversation with V. Magazine.
“It wasn’t a power play, no one was trying to be horrible or hurt me. It was a very different time and now we know better about it. Times were different,” added the Oscar winner for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in “Les Misérables” (2012).
“An Idea of You” is an adaptation of the novel of the same name written by Robinne Lee. The film follows Solène (Hathaway), a 40-year-old single mother who begins an unexpected relationship with Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), 24, the lead singer of a boyband. It’s not long before the singer’s superstar status poses inevitable challenges to their relationship and the protagonist soon discovers that life in the spotlight may be more than she can handle.
