The album “Songwriter” will be released on June 28
Johnny Cash songs rediscovered have been included in a new album to be released by his son, John Carter Cash.
The album titled “Songwriter” originally recorded by country singer Johnny Cash at LSI Studios, Nashville in 1993, a decade before his death at age 71. The record label was owned by his family members and it is believed that he wanted to help them financially as well as record the songs.
After a slump in record sales, Cash met rock rap producer Rick Rubin and he shelved the songs.
The two recorded four critically acclaimed and commercially successful albums, with the first “American Recordings” which won a 1994 Grammy, garnered a younger audience and led to Cash’s cover of Nine Inch Nails’ “Hurt” in 2002.
More than 30 years later, Cash’s son and wife June Carter Cash will release the 11 songs featuring his father’s vocals and acoustic guitar.
