Actor who played the son of Halle Berry in ‘The Last Supper’ dies at age 30

Coronji Calhoun Sr., who played Halle Berry’s son, 55, Tyrell, in the drama “The Last Supper” (2001) died at age 30 in the United States. The death took place on October 13th, but it was only announced now. According to reports, the former child actor was a victim of heart failure.

Calhoun’s mother, Theresa Bailey, claimed that he “had no life insurance policy” and created a virtual kitty to help “give Coronji a sacred celebration of life”. According to Entertainment Weekly, she later updated the notice indicating that she had achieved her financial goal, thanks to donations, which included amounts donated by Berry and the film’s producer, Lee Daniels, 61.

The publication also reported that the actress and producer donated US$ 3,394 (equivalent to R$ 18 thousand) each to the family of the former child actor, who only acted in “A Last Supper”. “As we close this chapter, we ask that when you remember it, remember to love your neighbor as yourself,” Bailey wrote. “Because that’s what Coronji did for his entire community,” he finished.

Calhoun was just ten years old when she starred opposite Berry in the film, which won her the 2002 Best Actress Oscar, the first in the category given to a black woman. The film’s cast also included Sean Combs, 52, Billy Bob Thornton, 66, and Heath Ledger (1979-2008).

Before the awards Berry told People about the difficulty of acting out scenes where her character abused her son because of his weight. “It was a lot more difficult because he was actually ten years old and obese,” he noted at the time, noting that he was concerned that acting might hurt him emotionally in any way.

“I talked to him a lot and I hugged and kissed him a lot. He said, ‘You don’t have to worry about what you say, it can’t be as bad as how they treat me at school.’ But I hear now that he’s the boy most popular in school. So I guess [o filme] ended up helping him,” he concluded in 2002.
