THE International Museum Day is celebrated today Saturday (18/5) and many municipalities of Attica participate with events and actions in the museums and cultural places of their region. Among them and the municipality of Athenswho today invites young and old to take part in a series of events that he organizes the Culture, Sports and Youth Organization of the Municipality of Athens (OPANDA) with free participationat the Art Gallery, the Arts Center, the Folk Art and Tradition Museum “Aggeliki Hatzimichalis”, the Digital Museum of the Platonos Academy, the Cultural Center “Melina” and the Children’s Library of Larissa Station.
In detail, the program of actions is as follows:
10:30 – “MELINA” CULTURAL CENTER (Thisio). Action for families with children aged 6 to 12 years. Book presentation of the book “The Little Prince” by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry and the book “The Last Knight of Heaven” by George Papageorgiou.
11:00 – ATHENS MUNICIPALITY ART GALLERY (Metaxourgio). “The rooster in the Athens Municipality Art Gallery teaches sustainability lessons”. Art workshop for children aged 5 to 7 by artist Efi Tsoulochopoulou.
11:00 – DIGITAL MUSEUM OF THE PLATO ACADEMY (Monasteriou and Kreontos 1). “Plato’s Academy: Inspiration and Imagination”. Action for children aged 8 to 12 years. When Plato’s philosophy meets art. The action consists of two parts:
– Thematic tour of the Digital Museum with examples from the history of art, how Plato’s philosophy and its study have influenced artists in understanding and depicting the world.
– Painting and storytelling game inspired by Plato’s myths.
11:30 – LARIS STATION CHILDREN’S LIBRARY (Domokou 2). “The statues”. Action for children aged 4 to 9 years.
12:00 – ATHENS MUNICIPALITY ART GALLERY (Avdi Square, Metaxourgeio). “The Library in the Gallery”. Action for children aged 7 to 12 years. The collections of the Art Gallery provide inspiration for poems with the sociologist Maria Bakara.
12:00 – ATHENS MUNICIPALITY ART GALLERY (Avdi Square, Metaxourgeio). Guided tour of Cities for cycling at the exhibition “Pashousa Nature” / Natura Patiens, as part of the This is Athens City Festival, with the curator of the exhibition Nina Fragkopoulou.
12:00 – ARTS CENTER (Freedom Park). Educational program for children between the ages of 6 and 12, designed based on the collections of the “Eleftherios K. Venizelos” Museum and the individual periodical exhibition “Fortress against violence” by Giorgos Douatzis.
12:00 – MUSEUM OF FOLK ART AND TRADITION “ANGELIKI HATZIMICHALI” (Plaka). “Traveling with Angeliki Hatzimihalis”. Program for families with children aged 6 to 12, following the path of folk writer Angelika Hatzimichalis.
12:45 – ATHENS MUNICIPALITY ART GALLERY (Avdi Square, Metaxourgeio). Guided tour of Cities for cycling at the exhibition “Lambros Orfanos – Elli Mourelou Orfanou: The Charm of Measure”, within the framework of This is Athens City Festival, with the co-curator of the exhibition Steisis Ventouras.
THE Municipality of Aegaleo together with the Association of Asia Minor Aegaleo “Nees Kydonias” and the Museum of Asia Minor Culture organize at 19:30 an exhibition of the holy icon of the central church of the Exaltation of the Holy Cross, which is a donation of Asia Minor Refugees from the Forgotten Homelands. This will be followed by a guided tour of the Museum with an emphasis on the religious items exhibited in its permanent collection and others that will be offered especially for this event by members and friends of the Association.
THE municipality of Amarousi today organizes creative and entertaining cultural activities for young and old, with free access from morning to evening. The program is as follows:
– Historical and Folklore Museum (Vas. Olgas 26 & Platonos 1): Educational Workshop. With Fabric and Warp, Weaving Adventures for children from 7 years and older and parents (11:30-13:00).
– Museum of Natural History (Theof. Kairi 2 & Cyprus Agonists): Workshop where young visitors will be able to make original creations (Times 17:30-18:00, 18:00-18:30, 18:30-19: 00).
– Spathario Museum of Shadow Theater (27 North Epirou & Mesogeion): Festive performance of Shadow Theater by the puppeteer Christos Tzanulinos entitled: “The Bride of Karagiozis”, in the amphitheater of the Museum (20:30).
To municipality of Elefsina, the Ephorate of Antiquities of Western Attica joins in the celebration with action “Getting to know the Archaeological Museum of Elefsina in the context of lifelong learning”. Guided tour for KAPI groups and groups of students from Second Chance Schools, inside the archaeological site of Elefsina.
To Zografou municipality, the G. Gounaropoulos Museum will present guided tours and a lecture on “Museums, Education and Research”. The actions are connected with the new donation of important paintings, but also part of the archive of Giorgos Gounaropoulos.
The program for today Saturday (18/5):
11:00-12:00: “George Gounaropoulos as a “teacher” in the 1930s”. Lecture by dr. Art History Spiro Moschona.
12:00-13:00: Guided tour of the “Giorgos Gounaropoulos, new donation, new approaches” exhibition, as well as the permanent collection of the Museum’s works by dr. Art History and curator of the Dionysia Giakoumis Museum. Free entrance.
To municipality of Lavreotiki, the Society of Studies of Lavreotiki and the Museum of Ceramics “AKEL – Panos Valsamakis” organize a visit to the Museum’s collection at the Old First Primary School of Lavrio (19:30 to 22:00), with free entry. On the premises of the Museum there will be an exhibition in honor of Charalambos Tsirigotis, one of the last potters, who worked as an operator of the artistic wheel at the AKEL factory and for the first time part of his personal work is being exhibited.
THE municipality of Nea Philadelphia-Nea Chalkidona held a series of events throughout the previous week at the Museum of Asia Minor Hellenism “Filio Chaidemenou”, a musical concert with Manos Pyrovolakis, a theatrical performance, the opening of the Ergochiron Folklore Exhibition and organized guided tours with educational programs, while for today Saturday (18/5) an overnight stay is planned at “Filio Chaidemenou” Museum for the 8th year, which will be held with free admission.
THE municipality of Ilioupoli honors the international Museum Day which is celebrated on May 18 every year and informs the Citizens and Residents that the Museum of National Resistance will remain open from 9:00 a.m. until 17:00 pm, describing it as “a matter of honor and a real opportunity for those who have not done so to get to know the Museum of National Resistance”.
