The Outrun” is the title of the new film by the German director Nora Fingscheidt, which follows the dramatic story of a 29-year-old Scottish woman who struggles with the alcoholism. Starring the four-time Oscar-nominated actress Saoirse Ronan who has stolen impressions with her interpretation while also taking over part of the production.

The ambitious film is based on Amy Liptrot’s 2017 award-winning novel of the same name, with the heroine who has just finished rehab and returns to her birthplace in the remote Orkney Islands of Scotland after a decade to to escape the demons of alcoholism.

“Sober but lonely, she tries to suppress from her memory the events that led her on this journey of recovery,” reads the official synopsis.

“Slowly the beauty and tradition of the place seep into her inner world and – day by day – she finds the hope and strength that she hides in herself amidst the strong storms and the frozen sea.”

“The desire for alcohol can come out of nowhere. You think you’re doing well and all of a sudden you want nothing more than a drink,” says the heroine in the trailer released by production company StudioCanal.

She is joined by Saskia Reeves, Stephen Dillane, Lauren Lyle, Izuka Hoyle and Paapa Essiedu, as reported by the Digital Spy website.

The Outrun, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival in January, will debut in UK cinemas on September 27.
