Patricia Poeta recalls obstetric violence during childbirth: ‘It was like torture’

by

The journalist and presenter of the Meeting, Patricia Poeta, 47, recalled what she says she considers one of the most distressing moments of her life, during the birth of her only son, Felipe, now 21 years old. According to her, it was recently realized that she suffered obstetric violence during her birth, which occurred in the United States, where she worked as a correspondent for Globo, in 2002.

“At 41 weeks, one day I went to the hospital to do another exam, the kind you do when a child is about to be born, and from then on I never left. From then on, several experiences would be had. It took 14 hours for the baby to be born of natural birth. Something that had no chance of happening. At those times, every five minutes, the pain, with the induced birth and without anesthesia, was extreme. was given”, he said in an interview with Universa.

According to Poeta’s report, the doctor and nurses maintained the decision to wait even at risk to the baby, without taking her well-being into consideration. “After all these hours of suffering, I was taken to an operating room. A new birth began the next day. This time, a cesarean section. At that time, the feeling I had was that I no longer existed. There was nothing left of me. . Feeling of no longer having strength”, he said.

“It was as if I had gone through torture. My heart was racing faster than ever. I was afraid, very afraid of everything I had experienced in the last few hours and what could happen. I have such a trauma that to this day I can’t watch films , birth documentaries. I created a kind of blockade”, she added to the publication.

Until then, Patricia justified this moment as something cultural from another country, but after learning about the topic and talking to other women, she realized that it had not been something normal.

“I realized that nothing justified that. I went to study the position of the World Health Organization (WHO) regarding obstetric violence and then it hit me: I had been a victim.”

Son of the presenter and Globo director Amauri Soares, Felipe Poeta introduces himself as PoetaNoBeat and is self-taught on guitar, bass, violin, piano, keyboard and synthesizer. After graduating in music production at the Los Angeles College of Music, he returned to Brazil to set up the record label Tha House Company.

He also acts as artistic director for new names and produces soundtracks, such as that for the second season of the series “Arcanjo Renegado”, on Globoplay.
