After providing a private jet and a helicopter to transport donations to victims of the rains in Rio Grande do Sul at the beginning of May, Neymar Jr donated R$21 million to help with the restructuring of the state. The amount will be taken from the player’s own resources and is equivalent to the total proceeds from the charity auction organized by his institute this Monday (3).
The decision by the Al-Hilal striker, from Saudi Arabia, surprised the event organizers. It was expected that Neymar would direct a lot from the auction (there were 24 in total) to help the gauchos, but he was generous and announced that the amount would be the same amount raised at the event.
The donation of R$21 million is the largest made by a public figure to date. Banco Safra, owned by Vicky Safra and her family, made a donation of R$1 million to the region a month ago. Itaú, owned by the Setúbal, Villella and Moreira Salles families, released an aid package worth R$10 million at the same time.
The proceeds from the auction, in its fourth edition, are destined for the Neymar Jr Institute, in Praia Grande, on the coast of São Paulo, which serves around three thousand children. In 2023, the event raised around R$9 million. In 2017, in the first edition, the auction generated R$2.5 million, and in 2018, R$3.9 million.
