Ashton Kutcher criticized for praising usability Artificial Intelligence (AI) for the creation of films and TV shows.

The American actor in a conversation with former Google CEO Eric Schmidt in Los Angeles praised the Sora app developed by OpenAI for videos.

“I have a version of it in review and it’s amazing” the actor said according to Variety.

“You can create any material you want. You can make good 10, 15 second videos that look very real. It still doesn’t quite understand the physics…But if you look at the generation of what it was a year ago compared to Sora, it’s blazing fast”.

“You just have an idea for a movie, then he’ll write the script, then you’ll take the script into video production and he’ll make the movie” he added.

The actor and tech investor said that “eventually it won’t make sense to make movies the traditional way when Artificial Intelligence is fully developed and he pointed out that it will also save a lot of money.

The comments sparked backlash from creators in Hollywood. Former Rick & Morty writer Katie Delaney commented: “When you remove people from a collective and creative pursuit, you literally lose humanity. A hollow, dumb, pointless shell. Television will have the same artistic value as dish soap.”

Screenwriter Ash Lazer commented, “You train it to replace you. And your child’s dreams.”

The actor mentioned that the use of Artificial Intelligence saves resources by no longer having to employ stuntmen, writers, visual effects artists to create stories and content.

SAG-AFTRA member Damon Gonzalez wrote in a post on X: “Greed will always come first. Just because you can save money, you should use only with a minimum cost of human jobs. As consumers and filmmakers we need to reject this garbage.”
