A new book in the “Hunger Games” series is expected on bookstore shelves next year. Writer Susan Collins confirmed the news last week in a social media post.

The book “Sunrise on the Reaping” will be the fifth volume in the best-selling dystopian series and will take place 24 years before the first “Hunger Games” novel, which was released in 2008, and 40 years after Collins’ most recent work, “The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes,” according to with the publishing house Scholastic.

Collins’ previous novels have been inspired by Greek and Roman mythology, but her new book will delve into something different this time. He suggested that he felt inspired by the Scottish Enlightenment philosopher David Hume, specifically the “idea of tacit subjection” and in his words “the ease with which the many are ruled by the few”.

The book is expected to be released on March 18, 2025.

Film studio Lionsgate, which has released all the ‘Hunger Games’ movies so far, has confirmed it will adapt the new book for the big screen – announcing November 20, 2026 as the film’s theatrical release date.
