Céline Dion says she first had symptoms of the disease in 2008: ‘Lying was too much for me’

It was in Germany, where she was performing on the “Taking Chances” tour in 2008, that Céline Dion felt the first symptoms of the neurological disease she is facing. The singer, however, only made her diagnosis of stiff person syndrome public in 2022.

Céline spoke about the syndrome when she had to cancel her European shows on her “Courage” tour. At the time, she told the public how the disease made her life difficult and said she was trying hard to get stronger.

In the same interview, the artist stated that she could no longer keep the news to herself, but that she didn’t tell her before because she didn’t know what it was about.

“What was I supposed to say? ‘I’m with…’ What? We didn’t know what was going on, I should have stopped and taken the time to find out. My husband was fighting for his life too, he had to raising my children. Lying to the people who got me to where I am today was too much for me.”

Céline also said that she suffers from muscle spasms and has already broken her ribs as a result of them. “Sometimes, when [a doença] It’s serious, it could break some ribs.”
