“I learned from a very young age not to trust people, while animals are very predictable,” he says.
For the first time in more than a decade o Moby is touring Europe and the proceeds from his concerts will all be allocated to animal rights which, as he says, is now his real work.
There is no doubt about it, after all the words “ANIMAL” and “RIGHTS” are written in capitals on the tattoos he has on his arms, while on the back of his neck he has a tattoo of “Vegan for Life”.
“I’ve been vegan for 37 years now. My purpose in life is to work for animal rights. I no longer see music as a profession. Music has become a pleasant, calm refuge”he says in an interview with AFP.
25 years ago the album ‘Play’ by Moby, whose real name is Richard Melville Hall, sold more than 20 million copies worldwide.

Today, at the age of 58, the electronic music artist returns to Europe for seven shows, and the proceeds are to be distributed to eight or nine animal rights or environmental organizations.
Dates are to be announced in the coming weeks.
Moby declares himself ready to play hits mainly from his albums ‘Play’ and ’18’.
“It’s what the public wants to hear. When I go to see my favorite bands, it’s very disappointing that they don’t play the songs I know and love. It seems selfish to me”says.
He typically mentions Radiohead, who refuse to play their biggest hit, “Creep”.
“This is a great song. People like it. If you can make someone happy, why not play it?’he wonders.
His point of view is experiential and refers to the early years of his career as a member of punk bands in New York.
“I remember a show at a Chinese restaurant where there were four people in the band and two in the audience…I never expected that I would make music that people would recognize and like.”
Trump hates animals
Most of his time these days is spent lobbying politicians for animal rights.
There are many well-intentioned people in the current administration in Washington, he says, but in an election year they are afraid to do anything that will help elect Donald Trump.
“Donald Trump is truly a psychopath. He is known to hate animals. His ex-wife says she took a dog into their home and Trump threatened to kill it. He hates animals because they can’t do anything for him.”
Moby believes he became a vegan because of his traumatic childhood: his father was killed in a drunken car accident, he himself was sexually abused as a child, and he was ashamed of being poor.
“I learned from a very young age not to trust people, while animals are very predictable”he explains.
There was a period when he was even more actively involved with animals. He visited animals as they were transported to slaughterhouses–to “witness,” to offer them moments of kindness before they died.
He says that because of it, meat production, processing and marketing companies have been forced to change the timing of animal deliveries by moving them to the night.
“Few people are willing to wake up at 2:30 a.m. and drive all the way across town to be there in sub-zero temperatures. They beat him this round.”
Today Moby tries to approach his activism “in a very strategic way.”
“It means you’re involved in politics, philanthropy, fundraising for vegan product startups, the media. I try to identify what is noticeably far from the establishment and look for ways to help”ends up.
