Sean Diddy Combs returned the key to New York City last week at the request of Mayor Eric Adams over the release of a 2016 video in which the music mogul is seen assaulting his ex-partner, Cassie.

The mayor of New York demanded the return of the key on June 4, after the video was released in May. A letter from the mayor sent to Cobbs’ offices in New York and Los Angeles expressed his “deep concern” over the attack. “I strongly condemn these actions and stand in solidarity with all survivors of domestic violence and gender-based violence” Eric Adams pointed out.

The city government received the key on June 10, the mayor’s office confirmed to THR on Sunday.

The video, which was first released on May 17, showed Diddy running from a hotel room and chasing his former partner, R&B singer Cassie Ventura, towards the elevator. He grabs her by the neck and throws her to the floor, kicks her, pushes her and drags her by her blouse. Later in the video, he returns to kick her again and then throws an object at her from a nearby table.

The American rapperrecord producer and entrepreneur apologized in a message on social media shortly after the video resurfaced, saying: “It’s so hard to reflect on the darkest moments in your life, but sometimes you have to do that.. . My behavior in this video is inexcusable.”

He also said that he takes “full responsibility for his actions in this video” and that “he felt disgusted then when he did it” and “he feels disgusted now”.

After the video was published, the Howard University revoked the honorary degree which had been awarded to him.
