Maint Point Theater Workshop and director Dimitris Kanellos present William Shakespeare’s masterpiece “Othello”, at the OLVIO THEATER directed by Dimitris Kanellos for only a few performances from Friday 28/06/2024.

How far can a man go when he is blinded by jealousy? Can love defeat betrayal in the end?

“People must appear what they are, or at least not appear what they are not…”

The answers are given on stage by a 20-member troupe under the masterful guidance and direction of Dimitris Kanellos. The work of the great British writer talks about the universal values of love, jealousy and betrayal through the rise and fall of a man who loved a lot.

“Othello” or The Black Man of Venice, is one of the most important plays by the great English writer William Shakespeare. It was written around 1603 and, along with Hamlet, Macbeth and King Lear, belongs to the late and more mature period of the author.

A few words about the project:

Black Othello is an officer in the army of the Republic of Venice. He secretly marries for love the beautiful young Dysdemona, without the consent of her father, Bravantius. When Iago, a malevolent and incredibly ambitious soldier sees his promotion ruined by a young and inexperienced soldier Cassius, he sets into motion his revenge plan of Othello’s crash. The completely unsuspecting Othello falls victim to a well-crafted plot masterfully woven by the hypocritical Iagos. Will the scheming soldier finally succeed in leading to the total downfall of Othello?
