Pre-candidate for Mayor of São Paulo by the PSDB, José Luiz Datena confirmed this Friday (28) that he is stepping down from command of the Brasil Urgente program, on Band. The presenter will take a few days off to comply with the requirements of the electoral law, which prohibits the exposure of candidates on TV from July onwards.
The launch of Datena’s candidacy is not yet taken for granted. He has until the end of next month to decide his fate. At Band, few believe that this will actually happen.
Even so, the broadcaster defined who will take their place from Monday (1st). This is Lucas Martins, considered the main reporter for Brasil Urgente. Lucas already runs the program on Saturdays and on Datena’s occasional days off, taking turns with Joel Datena, the presenter’s son, who is also hired by the Band.
The audience weighed in on the choice. Lucas Martins manages to maintain the audience numbers that Datena scores on Band, always at around 4 audience points in Greater São Paulo. Each point is equivalent to 191 thousand viewers.
After the holidays, Datena says he intends to take an unpaid leave from the station during the campaign period. Unlike what happened in his other attempts in politics, this time he promises to go all the way in the race for mayor of São Paulo.
The PSDB is expected to hold its convention and officially launch the campaign at the beginning of August.
