I may not belong to the 2000 generation, since I was born in 2002, but I can’t hide that that era is often an inspiration for me. From music to makeup and trends, she has something to tell you!

Personally, it is the era that I have loved and today I want to take a look back at the past, back to the 00s and more specifically to the beauty trends that existed then and left an era. It was a time of experimentation (who can forget bold highlights?), but it was also one of the most daring and innovative times in beauty history.

The Y2K era in particular, where the trends of the ’90s and 2000s came together in a brilliant fusion, keeps popping up in pop culture, and for good reason. As with ’90s beauty trends, many of them still hold true today. Check out some below:

The Best Beauty Trends of the 2000s

Light brown smokey eye

One of the beauty trends from the 2000s that I appreciate is the smokey eye. It was “softer” and they put a minimal amount of eyeshadow on the brow bone and I didn’t go overboard with the mascara. It’s surprisingly discreet.

Nude lips like white

The 2000s was a time of great controversy over how open a ‘nude’ lip could be. The lips were barely visible with the very light shades of lipstick that were in fashion at the time, which seems to be back in the limelight with “concealer lips” causing a panic on TikTok.

Contes, Rare Innocents

The big sister of the “microbangs” trend was the “sloppy bangs”. A little longer and a little more practical, the short, sloppy, uneven tresses allowed us to have a more thoroughly unkempt hair look, but not in a way that looked unkempt.

A Simple Frame

The frame was, is and will be the ultimate trend. Whether we are talking about the decade of the 00s, or about today, there are so many versions of the bob haircut that you will definitely find the one that suits you.

Very black pencil

You can often recognize a makeup look from the 2000s because it usually involved outlining the entire eye with black pencil.

Messy Updos

Messy updos were loved in the 90s, and that continued into the next decade.

Lip gloss

Lip gloss was probably one of the most distinctive trends in the world of beauty during the 00s.

Big Blush

Today you know it as ‘boyfriend blush’, back then it was known as ‘big blush’! What they have in common? That sunburned effect on the skin that looks like you’ve just been sunburned. My favorite trend!

This Mini Cat Eye

As I mentioned, if you look closely at the hair and makeup that starred in the 2000s, you can get incredible inspiration. Angelina Jolie spent this decade with very dark hair and in her make-up she chose a cat-eye in dark tones and applied a lot of mascara. The most dramatic effect was her favorite.

Sharply Winged

Light blue is an interesting eyeshadow color. In the 90s, they mostly applied it all over the lid and then wondered why it didn’t look even.
