Zé Vaqueiro spoke for the first time about the death of his son, Arthur, who passed away on July 9, at 11 months old. The singer shared with fans the challenges he and his wife, Ingra Soares, faced while caring for the newborn, who spent almost his entire life in the hospital.
“It was eleven months of a lot of struggle and in the last few days we could see that he was suffering a lot, a lot and then he rested. He rested, but I believe that God put him in a good place,” said Zé Vaqueiro on Instagram Stories.
Arthur was born with a congenital malformation resulting from trisomy 13 syndrome, also known as Patau syndrome. Shortly before he died, he was discharged from the hospital and spent 24 hours at the family home for the first time.
“The day he came home and then went back to the hospital, he spent a long time without breathing. When he got to the hospital, he started breathing again,” his father said. “Every day, he is a miracle, because there is no way this child could have that much strength,” he recalled his thoughts about his son.
Zé Vaqueiro highlighted the little boy’s strength, noticed by everyone around him: “We saw our son fighting with all the strength he had, until the last day of his life.”
He also talked about the period in which he performed shows and traveled, while Artur was in the hospital: “We tried not to let things drop and God sustained us. I had to work, I had to perform shows and only God knows how many shows I went on stage with my mental health completely shaken, but I tried to do my best.” He said he will return to the stage soon.
