Léo Batista had a surprise party this Monday (22) at Globo’s sports newsroom. The presenter turned 92 and was celebrated by his colleagues with cake, snacks and soft drinks. “I’m almost in tears. I won’t cry because I want to eat first. I think crying on a full stomach is better than crying from hunger,” joked the journalist.
With 53 years at the station and over 76 years in journalism, Léo Batista was moved by the memories of his colleagues. The presenter has not yet retired and continues to work for the company. At the beginning of last month, the series “Léo Batista – A voz marca” premiered on SporTV, with reports from friends and colleagues about the professional career of João Baptista Bellinaso Neto.
Pedro Bial, Tadeu Schmidt, Galvão Bueno, Boni, Leilane Neubarth, Luis Roberto and Alex Escobar gave statements to the production. “The first revolution in sports presentation was made by Léo. He reinvented himself on ‘Fantástico’, with the Zebrinha thing, he presented ‘Globo Esporte’, carnival… At 80 years old, he was on the air… He is a genius of communication”, says Escobar in his statement.
