Actor Matthew McConaughey, 52, has denied a renowned Hollywood surgeon who told medical conferences he had a hair transplant. He claimed that his hair – which had a significant fall out in the 90s – grew out with the help of a special product that he uses to this day.
In his memoir “Greenlights” and a recent interview with LADbible, McConaughey said he started shaving his head many years ago because his hair loss was so severe, but he managed to reverse the problem.
“How did it grow back? That’s a big mystery,” McConaughey told the site, adding that he rubbed a “topical ointment” into his scalp once a day.
“I’m very committed, I’m completely committed. I never did anything, it was always manual work. What I can say is that he came back. I have more hair today than I did in 1999”, insisted the actor.
McConaughey said that after his hair grew back, people started to think he had the transplant because a surgeon started saying he had the surgery and that the actor paid a lot of money to get the hair back.
The actor also said that he found another doctor in Beverly Hills who revealed that the surgeon was talking about hair transplantation at conventions. He further said that the doctor, whom he met in Los Angeles, even asked to inspect his hair for natural growth.
“He said, ‘Can I just look at your hair? Can I just feel and see it?'” McConaughey recalled. “I said, ‘Yeah man,’ he said, ‘You don’t have transplants.’ I said, ‘That’s what I said, of course not,'” says the actor, who added that the doctor couldn’t wait to report the surgeon at the next convention.
McConaughey also revealed that he has continued to use the product on his scalp for over 20 years and that he has no plans to stop. “I’m not going to stop just to see, ‘Oh, do I still need it?’. I’m not taking any chances.”
