Lady Gaga took to social media on Friday (26), shortly after the broadcast of her performance at the Olympic opening ceremony, to celebrate the opportunity to be part of the historic moment. The singer thanked the French people for welcoming her to Paris for the start of the Olympic Games.

“I feel completely grateful to have been invited,” Gaga wrote on X. The singer also spoke about singing the song “Mon Truc en Plumes”, made famous by Zizi Jeanmaire: “A song in homage to the French and their extraordinary history in art, music and cinema.” “This is not the first time our paths have crossed. Zizi starred in the musical “Anything Goes”, which was my first jazz release,” she said.

Gaga said she feels a special connection to the French, despite having no official ties to the country. “I have always felt a special connection to the French people and to singing French music,” she continued. “I wanted nothing more than to create a performance that would warm the hearts of France, celebrate French art and music and, on such a monumental occasion, remind everyone of one of the most magical cities on Earth: Paris.”

The singer made a point of mentioning that she used classic elements of French culture in her performance: “We rented pom-poms from the Le Lido archive—a true French cabaret theater. We collaborated with Dior to create custom costumes, using natural feather cuttings. I studied French choreography that gave a modern twist to a French classic. I rehearsed tirelessly to study a lively French dance, honing some old skills.”

Gaga’s performance harked back to “belle époque” dances, such as the Moulin Rouge, but with a swing jazz feel.

“I hope you love this performance as much as I do,” the artist added, thanking the French people and the athletes in the competition: “It is a supreme honor to sing for you and cheer you on!! Watching the Olympic Games always makes me cry! Your talent is unimaginable. Let the games begin.”
