Pirate Fjord is 31 km south of it Rethymnon, in an isolated little port to the south of Akrotiri Muri, Karavos or Kakomoura, between Plakias and Preveli. It is called Karavos and it is a long narrow bay of about 100 meters formed between large vertical rocks. It creates in this way a protected natural harbor that ends in a small sandy beach, 2 meters wide.

It is believed that during the Byzantine period pirates found refuge there, which gave the name to Karavos.

The area has become very famous in recent years and hundreds of local and foreign tourists visit it to swim and take pictures with this unique background.

It is a truly enchanting place that fascinates you from the first glance, especially when you see it from above.

As far as mythology is concerned, it is the place where Odysseus, enchanted by the beauty of the place and the queen Calypso, stayed there for seven years before returning to Ithaca. The images one sees explain why, according to legend, it is this place that bewitched Odysseus.

Even the seabed in this fjord in Crete is impressive.

With a dive, aspiring divers can discover the rarest seabed relief in the Mediterranean, while the picture is complemented by the rich life of fish, plants and corals.
