Yves Saint Laurent creative director points out plagiarism in Lady Gaga’s Olympic dress

The current creative director of Yves Saint Laurent, Anthony Vaccarello, used social media to contest the dress worn by Lady Gaga for the performance at the opening of the Paris Olympics, last Friday (26). According to him, the piece, designed by the Dior brand, would have similarities to one of his brand, designed many years before.

Vaccarello posted an image of a sketch of singer Zizi Jeanmaire’s dress, designed by Yves Saint Laurent. He tagged the profiles of Gaga, the Olympic Games and Thomas Jolly, who was responsible for the opening ceremony. “What a shame. There is no dignity anymore,” he wrote in the caption of the post, which was only online for about 20 minutes before being deleted.

It is worth remembering that Zizi Jeanmaire was the singer honored by Lady Gaga in the performance of the song “Mon Truc en Plumes”, which could explain the fact that the dress was inspired by her.

There is yet another reason for the rivalry between Vaccarello and Dior. Luxury conglomerate LVMH, to which Dior belongs, is the official sponsor of the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. Saint Laurent, on the other hand, belongs to the Kering group, a rival of LVMH.
