Find out who Elon Musk’s 12 children are

At 53, Elon Musk is already the father of 12 children and believes he needs to continue repopulating humanity. The richest man in the world has joked in interviews that he has “partially solved the problem of humanity’s population decline.” A fan of in vitro fertilization, he has not fathered almost any of his twelve children the natural way.

The billionaire used assisted reproduction methods to impregnate both his partners and surrogates. Because artificial insemination is more likely to result in multiple pregnancies, Musk has fathered twins, triplets, and then twins again — in addition to his “single” children.

One interesting fact about the South African tycoon is his preference for Canadian women. The three mothers of his children, Justine, Grimes and Shivon, are from the northernmost country in the Americas. Check out who Elon Musk’s 12 children are and their mothers:

Justine Wilson and the Twins and Triplets

In 2000, Musk married for the first time, to writer Justine Wilson. The couple’s first child, Nevada, born in 2002, died at two months of sudden neonatal death. In 2004, twins Griffin and Vivian were born through artificial insemination. In a recent interview with the conservative website Daily Wire, the billionaire stated that he rejects his daughter Vivian, a trans woman.

With Justine, Musk had triplets Kai, Saxon and Damian, all boys, born in 2006, also through insemination. In 2008, the couple separated and Musk married for the second time, to actress Talulah Riley, with whom he had no children. During this period, he also dated Amber Heard, Johnny Depp’s ex-wife.

Grimes and babies with exotic names

Born Claire Elise Boucher, pop singer Grimes was the second mother of Elon Musk’s children. With her, the billionaire had X Æ a-XII, a boy, born in May 2020 under the media spotlight. In December 2021, the couple’s second daughter, Exa Dark Sideræl, was born via surrogate, and in June 2022, their third, Techno Mechanicus, was also born via surrogate. When Techno was born, however, his parents were already separated.

In October 2023, Musk and Grimes began a legal battle over custody of X. The billionaire is the boy’s primary caregiver and often takes him to meetings with scientists, executives, and heads of state. The singer accused her ex of not letting her see her son, but deleted the post.

Shivon and the ‘secret’ children

A month before Exa was born, in November 2021, Musk had twins with another woman, Shivon Zilis, an executive at one of his companies, Neuralink. Named Strider and Azure, the twins, also created in a lab, were kept secret by the couple. Their existence only came to light in 2023, when journalist Walter Isaacson, Musk’s biographer, published a photo of the babies on X.

By this time, Musk had already split from Grimes and started dating Shivon. The singer, however, was just as surprised as the public when she saw the photo of the children on social media.

In June 2024, Musk confirmed the birth of his 12th child, his third with Shivon, after intense speculation in the American press. The baby’s name and gender have not yet been revealed.
